The Egg of Columbus – The Egg of Columbus
L'Uovo Di Colombo is a Roman quartet that recorded a single, self-titled album in 1973. The band consists of Elio Volpini (bass), Ruggero Stefani (drums), Enzo Volpini (guitar and keyboards), and Toni Gionta, aka Toni Tartarini, a singer with a splendid voice. They quickly gained recognition with several live performances, opening for Deep Purple at the Palasport in Rome in March 1973 and appearing at the Viterbo Pop Festival that same year alongside artists such as Alan Sorrenti and Mauro Pelosi. Released on the Columbia label, distributed by EMI, the album is a truly brilliant and distinctive debut. It features refined compositions and meticulously arranged arrangements that highlight the instrumentalists' technical potential and create a balanced and energetic album, without any drop in tone. The album's opening track, "L'Indecisione," is a gem for all prog lovers; Consiglio marries vocal melody and avant-garde sound; even "Vox Dei," with an instrumental base clearly inspired by Uriah Heep, is among the memorable moments of yet another "jewel" of Italian Progressive Rock.
